PETER MAZZONE
Pete has been practicing law since 1995, focusing primarily on criminal defense. Following law school, he became a trial attorney at the Snohomish County Public Defender’s Association where he practiced for five years before entering private practice in 2001. Since that time his law firm has evolved to become Mazzone Law Firm, PLLC.
During his twenty-five years of practice, Pete has become a distinguished criminal defense lawyer and is one of a select group of lawyers qualified to handle death penalty cases. He frequently lectures at seminars to help other lawyers in the community on their criminal defense strategies ranging from pre-trial motions to developing a strong defense. He has successfully argued before the Washington State Supreme Court and has earned a reputation for being a well-respected and highly skilled litigator in State and Federal Court.

JOHN EWERS
John W. Ewers’ was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 2001, but his legal career began in earnest in 2003 when, as a public defender, he fought for the rights of the accused in Everett Municipal Court. He quickly earned a reputation as a zealous advocate for his clients, as he amassed a wealth of litigation experience through a contentious and aggressive trial practice. In 2005 he joined Peter Mazzone’s law firm and traveled all across the State representing people accused of misdemeanors and felonies. In 2008 John returned to public defense, and he practiced in King County for sixteen years. During that period, John litigated hundreds of cases, doggedly advancing the interests of his clients in cases as simple as drug possession to allegations and charges as serious as aggravated murder and child rape. In 2024 John rejoined the Mazzone Law Firm, as a partner.

Bill joined the Mazzone Law Firm in 2019. Before turning to law in 1978, he taught philosophy at Missouri State University. Bill spent most of his 40 of practice as a public defender, including serving as the Director of the Snohomish County Public Defender Association for 26 years.
Bill has appeared before all levels of the courts of the State of Washington. He represented four clients facing the death penalty.

JOHN MCCASKILL
John is the newest associate of Mazzone Law Firm and joins us with an extensive background in criminal law. He grew up in Springfield, Missouri, and obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri. After college, John attended school at the University of Missouri School of Law, and earned his J.D. While in law school, he participated in both prosecution and family violence clinics, and was a member of the competitive mediation team.
After school, John worked for the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office in Springfield, Missouri for 5 years before moving to Washington. He previously prosecuted misdemeanor and felony cases with an emphasis on domestic violence cases. John is passionate about providing honest representation and defending the rights of the accused.

Ciana is the Administrator and head paralegal at Mazzone Law Firm. She started at the firm in May of 2022 as legal secretary and, through dedication and hard work, advanced to her current role. Ciana graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. With a solid foundation of experience and a meticulous approach, she is pivotal in managing the firm’s operations and supporting the legal team.
